About the Journal
Denver Mountain Journal is where I write about the place I live: Denver, the foothills that start twelve miles west of it, and the high basins and passes the city depends on for water, weather, and weekends.
It is a personal journal more than a magazine. The pieces come from days I actually spent somewhere, which is why every one carries the place and the elevation under the headline. The through-line is simple: look after the land, get outside, and try to live a good life while you are at it.
What you will find here
Dispatches are written from a single place on a single day. Trails is about walking and what walking does to the ground. The City is about how Denver is built and who it is built for. Field Notes is shorter: observations, numbers, and the occasional correction to something everyone believes.
Who writes it
I am Mark Lindgren, a real estate developer based in Denver. My day job is building housing; this is where I write about everything around it.
Sister projects
The Land Fund works on land conservation. Colfax Industries is my apparel and goods brand. The Journal is the storytelling side of the same idea.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, I will fix it in place and note the change and the date at the bottom of the piece.
